Mernel Koh (1993-2008)




I'm not going to paint a picture where Mernel was a perfect girl
I'm going to describe her just as she was.
Imperfect, but a genuinely nice girl at the very core.

She would always agree to help me when I needed help in primary school
when I needed dancers
when I needed a bloody genius idea to wrap up a performance and set the bar for other teams to compete against.
when I threw up after dancing too much she and the girls cleaned me up and made me feel so much better.

On my first day in Fairfield Methodist Secondary School
I had no friends.
No one to sit with during recess,
or lunch, for that matter.

So I went to look for the few people that I actually knew.
To seek comfort, to seek solace, to seek the familiar.
I went to seek Mernel. Danielle.

And we spent the recess talking.
